Arrested Development New Season!

In what is quite possibly the best news I’ve heard in a long time, it’s being reported that the long-touted Arrested Development movie will not only happen, but it will be preceded by a new ten-episode season!

Many of the cast, and show mastermind Mitchell Hurwitz, were part of a mini-reunion at the New Yorker Festival over the weekend and the revelation came straight from the horse’s mouth so to speak as Hurwitz dropped the pleasing bombshell on those in attendance.

Many fans of the show, who have long suffered from premature announcements of a return of one of the greatest TV comedies ever made, were cautious at first as there have been such agonising teases in the past.

News soon hit the web and it was Will Arnett that initially sent fanboys crazy when he tweeted “I'm peeing with @batemanjason at the moment..and we can confirm that we are going to make new AD eps and a movie”

With social media outlets blowing up, Bateman himself poured fuel on the flames by then tweeting “It's true. We will do 10 episodes and the movie. Probably shoot them all together next summer for a release in early '13. VERY excited!”

Obviously after years of hurt and disappointment at the long-rumoured movie never getting off the ground I too was sceptical at first, but Bateman has been keen to keep fans updated ever since the show ended and I can’t see him blowing smoke up our collective asses.

Since the tweets some eighteen hours ago, more official outlets have also confirmed the news. TV Line reported that Hurwitz is planning a 9 or 10 episode mini-season with each episode focusing on an individual member of the family, which should hopefully keep scheduling issues to a minimum given the stature some of the show’s stars have gone on to achieve in the years since it ended.

The new season will supposedly bridge the gap between the end of season three and the long-awaited film.

Well-respected Deadline then further confirmed things by stating that the new season a 20th Century Fox, Netflix and Showtime production.

Although we’ve been burned in the past, this genuinely does seem like legitimate news and I’m beyond excited about the return of one of my favourite shows of all time.

Keep an eye on TV or not TV for any further breaking news on the return of Arrested Development…
