Fox to Cancel Lone Star...?

This is impressive even by Fox’s trigger-happy standards.

Rumour has it the network is considering cancelling new drama series Lone Star after just one episode.

Lone Star stars James Wolk as a Texan man living a double life complete with two different families.

The show debuted Monday night to modest ratings of 4.1m despite a lead-in from the new season of the popular-as-ever House and strong reviews.

Lone Star was always going to be fighting a losing battle in this ultra-competitive week, but going up against ratings juggernauts Dancing With the Stars and Two and a Half Men as well as the most hotly anticipated new network show of the season The Event, Fox’s debutant never stood a chance.

The rumour mill has now gone into over-drive; with word circling that Fox could axe the show immediately, or at the very least reschedule it or pull it from schedules whilst they figure out how to boost ratings.

Fox have apparently declined to comment on the rumours but an agent representing one of the Jon Voight-starring show’s writers is quoted as saying:

"No-one in TV should be happy about this. This is going to have a chilling effect on networks taking chances on anything but cookie-cutter shows."

Fox have a deplorable track record for this sort of thing, just look at Firefly, Arrested Development and Tru Calling for shows that were never really given a chance by the network. This has to be a new low for Fox though – the show has had one episode air at least see if ratings improve before wielding your already blood-stained axe once again.
