Sky1 Get Ride-Along

It seems like every other day now that I’m writing about Sky, but they keep making headlines with their new acquisitions.

Today, Sky1 have announced four new autumn additions to its line-up as they look to plug the very large Lost & 24 shaped hole in their schedules.

The good news is that one of the new additions to the Sky1 roster is The Shield mastermind Shawn Ryan’s new show Ride-Along which is set in Chicago and follows a group of cops out on the street. The cast includes Brotherhood’s Jason Clarke, Jennifer Beals and Delroy Lindo.

Given the subject matter and the man behind it, I’m very much looking forward to this show debuting and it was one of my tips as the potential next big thing back in June.

Other additions to the Sky1 line-up include sitcoms The Middle & Raising Hope and Texas based double-life drama Lone Star.

With the exception of The Middle (which is about to begin its second season on ABC) all the shows are from Fox which is of course part of the same evil Murdoch empire as Sky.

I honestly can’t see myself become a regular viewer of any of these shows other than Ride-Along. Lone Star doesn’t sound like it’s going to be my kind of show at all and I’d have rather heard that Sky1 had grabbed Running Wilde in the comedy bracket than The Middle or Raising Hope.

Sky1 seem to be putting more and more US family comedy out though and thus I understand why they’ve gone for these two comedies rather than something arguably more ‘edgy’ like Running Wilde. I have no doubt we’ll see one or even both of their new additions in a double bill with the excellent Modern Family when it returns.

Whether these new pick-ups from Sky excite you or not, one thing is clear: Sky are assembling one hell of a line-up of US television right now.
