HBO Take Horse Racing Drama ‘Luck’ to Series

HBO have picked up new drama series Luck to go to series after shooting the pilot episode.

This show has me practically salivating with excitement because it revolves around the world of Horse Racing. Until they find a way of combining sex and sleeping this might just be the greatest thing ever.

The show is described as: "a provocative look at horse racing – the owners, gamblers, jockeys and diverse gaming industry players."

But my well stated love for Horse Racing aside, this show has the hallmarks of being something really special; executive produced by Deadwood genius David Milch and renowned filmmaker Michael Mann, who write and direct the pilot respectively, and starring Nick Nolte and the great Dustin Hoffman. Hoffman will also act as a producer on the first season.

Luck will begin filming in the coming weeks at Santa Anita Park and other locations around Los Angeles.

In addition to Hoffman and Nolte, the pilot also stars Dennis Farina, John Ortiz, Kevin Dunn, Richard Kind and Jill Hennessy among others

The incredible cast put together here, headed by Hoffman and Nolte making their TV series regular debuts, meant that it wasn’t too much of a surprise when Luck was picked up, but it is no less exciting.

HBO now have a very strong hand of new dramas for the coming months, with the highly anticipated Boardwalk Empire premiering in September and Game of Thrones due some time in early 2011.

With this subject matter, cast, crew and network behind the show, Luck has instantly leapt to the top of my list of new shows I can’t wait to see.
